A biodynamic winery renowned for producing world-class Pinot Noir and
Riesling in Oregon
2017 RASTABAN PINOT NOIR
Sexy and deeply layered with a perfumed bouquet of red and black fruits with an undertone of brambly herbaceousness. Finishes with a spicy yet elegant length.
Comprised of 3 clones of pinot noir grapes from our very own Brooks Estate vineyard located in the Eola-Amity Hills. These clones are Pommard, 115, and 777. The vines were planted between 1973 and 1979 in volcanic basalt-nekia soil. Brooks Estate Vineyard is farmed biodynamic.
Founded in 1998, Brooks is a biodynamic winery renowned for producing world-class Pinot Noir and
Riesling in Oregon's Willamette Valley. Brooks is the only winery in the world to be a Certified B
Corporation, a 1% for the Planet member and Demeter certified biodynamic.
Brooks is the living legacy of Jimi Brooks, a visionary Portland native who came to wine through his passion for history and philosophy.
After traveling the world and experiencing the hard work of winemaking in Beaujolais, Jimi returned to Oregon and found a burgeoning wine world. He devoted the rest of his life to holistic farming and winemaking in the Willamette Valley, showcasing the region’s potential for expressive, complex and balanced Riesling and Pinot Noir.
Our wine is a true expression of the land.
Our grape varieties are uniquely suited to their site. We have investigated each site for soil type, sun exposure, and amount of rain and wind, to name just a few important factors. Minimal intervention winemaking results in the purest expression of fruit and an unhindered representation of our special terroir. The result? The best fruit year on year to showcase the uniqueness of each vintage.
“Be good to the land and the harvest it bears.” The land is the secret ingredient that makes Brooks a special place. Caring for it is our deepest honor and our most important job.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A BIODYNAMIC VINEYARD?
It means we focus on the land’s natural resources and eliminate the use of chemicals, herbicides, pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, or fungicides. We work to create a self-sustaining vineyard with a self-sustaining habitat that can protect that can protect the vine.
BIODIVERSITY AT BROOKS
We have a minimum of 10% of our total effective land base set aside as a biodiversity reserve including land for insectories, hedgerows, flowering cover crops, perennial plantings along the fence lines, roadways and wildlife corridors.
Our tillable acreage is not planted to a monoculture. We maintain botanical species diversity via our cover crop rotation strategies throughout the vineyard.
Inclusivity, caring and social responsibility are core principles of Brooks. Look after the people and they’ll look after you. These are the principles that Brooks was founded on over 20 years ago and they are guiding us today.
